About Wild Wood Growers CIC

Our Story

We’re a community-led organisation based in Saltburn-by-the-Sea delivering hands-on education in growing gourmet mushrooms and healing herbs.

Through our in-person workshops, mushroom kits, and Forest Therapy sessions, we aim to empower individuals to grow their own food and connect with nature for better mental and physical health.

As a Community Interest Company, every sale and workshop directly supports inclusive, local access to food growing skills, environmental learning, and wellbeing in nature.

Our dream for Wild Wood Growers, is to produce high quality, nutritious and locally grown mushrooms and herbs, for our local community and here in our online shop.

We blend traditional knowledge with modern science, and everything we teach is backed by peer-reviewed evidence where possible. Our work supports local partnerships, wellbeing initiatives, and regenerative growing practices for the benefit of our community and environment.

We are committed to supporting our community to build mental health resilience in nature based settings.

Our Approach

  • Community-led – We focus on grassroots workshops for local residents, often in collaboration with schools, peer support groups, or other social enterprises.

  • Science-informed – Our work draws on both traditional knowledge and modern peer-reviewed research. We don’t deal in false promises or “cures.” Just practical, accessible skills.

  • Nature-rooted – From food forest gardening to Forest Therapy, all of our sessions are grounded in outdoor settings.

  • Inclusive – We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Whether you’re an experienced grower or touching soil for the first time, you belong here.

Why a CIC?

As a Community Interest Company, our profits are reinvested into expanding access, subsidising workshops, and developing community spaces such as sensory herb gardens and micro food forests. Your support helps us do more, reach more, and grow together.

We believe small-scale, nature-based learning can change lives. Whether you come to grow mushrooms, find peace in the woods, or learn the basics of herbal care—you’re helping to build a healthier, more connected community.

Let’s grow something good together.

Community Collaborations – Work With Wild Wood Growers

It’s our mission to help as many people in our community as possible to enjoy the benefits of growing their own food and plants, including the wider social, emotional and mental health benefits of learning in a community setting.

We collaborate with individuals, peer community groups, educational establishments, and local practitioners, to deliver learn to grow workshops and support transforming under-utilised pockets of land into attractive micro-sensory community herb gardens, small scale mushroom farms, and food forest gardens.

Please contact us directly if you’d like to explore the possibilities of Wild Wood Growers working in collaboration with your organisation or group.
